January 1 – The Eurasian Economic Union comes into effect, creating a political and economic union between Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
January 15 – The Swiss National Bank abandons the cap on the franc’s value relative to the euro, causing turmoil in international financial markets.
February 12 – Leaders from Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France reach an agreement on the conflict in eastern Ukraine that includes a ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons. However, several days later, the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian rebels claim that, within its first day, the ceasefire was broken 139 times, as both sides failed to withdraw their heavy weapons and fighting had continued.
February 16 – The Egyptian military begins conducting airstrikes against a branch of the Islamic militant group ISIL in Libya in retaliation for the group’s beheading of over a dozen Egyptian Christians.

January 16 – Nick Cannon files for divorce from wife Mariah Carey.
January 31 – Justin Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel announce first pregnancy on Instagram.
January 31- Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of the late Whitney Houston and 90’s R&B singer Bobby Brown, was found face down in a bathtub and unresponsive. Brown was placed in a medically induced coma and her condition hasn’t improved as of March 2015.
February – Former Disney Star Zendaya was the subject of some nasty remarks by Giuliana Rancic on E!’s Fashion Police Red Carpet Oscar edition. Zendaya’s dread locks were under scrutiny. Rancic’s career took a hit and she went on a months-long hiatus from Fashion Police.
February 3 – Johnny Depp marries Amber Heard.
February 7 – Bruce Jenner was involved in a multi-car crash that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old woman. His car did not cause the accident.
February 8 – At the 57th Annual Grammy Awards Sam Smith wins Best New Artist and Song of the Year with ‘Stay with Me’. Album of the Year went to Beck for ‘Morning Phase’.
February 10 – NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams is suspended for six months for repeating a false claim from 2013 that he was in a helicopter brought down by enemy fire while embedded during the war in Iraq in 2003.
February 14 – Lady Gaga gets engaged to ‘Chicago Fire’ actor Taylor Kinney.
February 27 – Beloved American actor Leonard Nimoy dies at the age of 83 from COPD complications. He was best known for his role as ‘Spock’ on Star Trek.
February 27 – Country Singer Carrie Underwood and husband Mike Fisher welcome first child, son Isaiah Michael Fisher.
March 2 – The Sound of Music classic movie celebrates its 50th Anniversary.
March 25 – An official announcement was made that Zayn Malik is leaving the music group ‘One Direction’. The group says they will continue without him.
April – In an interview with Diane Sawyer, Bruce Jenner confirmed that he is transitioning into the woman we now know as Caitlin Jenner. Jenner went on to debut her new look on the July issue of Vanity Fair, land a reality show on E!, and accept the Arthur Ashe Courage award at the ESPY awards.
April 11 – Justin Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel welcome son, Silas Randall Timberlake.
May 2 – Prince William and Duchess Kate welcome daughter, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.
May 11- ‘Deflategate’ or ‘Ballghazi’; The NFL suspends Tom Brady of the New England Patriots for 4 games of the upcoming season, for possibly tampering with footballs during the AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts on January 18, 2015. On September 3, 2015 Judge Berman vacates this suspension claiming absence of ‘requisites of fairness and due process.’
May – Josh Duggar of the television series ’19 Kids and Counting’ was publicly shamed after documents of his molesting young women were made public. This lead to the suspension of the show.
May 14 – American Blues icon, singer, song-writer, and guitarist, B.B. King dies at 89.
May 20 – David Letterman’s last night on the ‘Late Show’ after hosting the popular late-night talk show for 33 years.
June – It was revealed that former NAACP chapter president, Rachel Dolezal, was born to white parents even though she ‘identifies’ as being black.
June 16 – U.S. Businessman Donald Trump announces his controversial presidential candidacy.
June 29 – Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announce their divorce.
July – Paparazzi photos reveal Scott Disick getting close with an ex-girlfriend on a yacht and lead to Kourtney Kardashian ending their long-term relationship.
July – Ariana Grande and a male friend were caught on a security camera in a California Donut shop licking donuts, meant for customer’s consumption, and saying ‘I hate America’. Grande released many apologies afterward and avoided criminal charges.
July – Bill Cosby’s defense of 2014 sexual abuse allegations take a turn for the worse when The New York Times uncovered a past deposition that included an admission from Cosby to using drugs and fame to get them to have sex with him.
